My husband, Jim Stirling, had a stroke in 1983 which resulted in loss of use of his right arm and the need for brace support for his right leg. He has been functioning very well in these past 30 years, but was beginning to have more balance issues and difficulty transitioning between sitting and the first steps of walking. He has also fallen a few times.
He has had a couple of rounds of PT in the past and this has helped remind him of gait issues which he has needed to work on and also has needed some help on balance.
This round of PT, he has gained some strength in both the left and right legs. His ability to "get moving" after he has been sitting and his steadiness on his feet in general have both improved. I have been impressed that 30 years post stroke he has been able to increase muscle use in his right leg. Amazing.
