Anodyne Therapy PDF Print E-mail

MattAnodyne1Anodyne is a modality we use in conjunction with other physical therapy services to treat such things as peripheral neuropathy. The theory behind anodyne is increasing local blood flow allowing more oxygen to get to the injured area.

Treatments will last approximately 30 minutes and can be done as often as needed. A patient will not actually feel anything while the treatment is being performed, but they should, over time, see the results of improved sensation in the extremities or other specific areas being treated.

We test the nerve distribution for sensitivity at the beginning of the plan of care and re-assess along the way. Many patients also have balance dysfunctions with neuropathy, so we evaluate and incorporate balance, strength, flexibility and gait exercises. The goal of the program is for improved sensations in the legs, balance and strength allowing for improved ambulation.
